i am using Vegas 7.0d to record a soundtrack to a video file.

However some of the recording on the piano (VST on a Mac) I would like to do live with the footage playing and an Audio track in record mode..

But as Vegas is playing/recording - it seems to pick up and record the other tracks along with it?!?!

So I get my piano take plus sfx that were in the video s/t and my other music on other channels?

Any way around this? I am going from the Mac striaght into my PC soundcard, thats it!

You need to change the input on the track to only record the input on your sound card that the piano is plugged into. This may also require you to select the proper sound device. Without knowing more about what sound card you have it is difficult to say but I'm going to assume that you are only using the sound chip on your PC's motherboard. I'm also going to assume that in Vegas under Options | Preferences | Audio Device that the device is the Microsoft Sound Mapper.

If this is the case, open up the Windows Volume Control applet (i.e., Start | All Programs | Accessories | Entertainment | Volume Control) In the Volume Control applet, choose Options | Properties and select Recording. Make sure Line In is checked and press OK. The Volume Control will switch from showing you Wave Out to now show Wave In. Make sure that Line In is the ONLY input that is checked as Select. This should make Windows only record from the Line In (which is where I assume you are plugging the piano into). If you are plugging the piano into some other input, make sure that one is the only one selected.

This is how you control what gets recorded in Vegas. If you have an audio device/sound card that has ASIO drivers you would be able to select the proper input right on the Vegas track header. Hope this helps.
