Vegas quality

I'm struggling to understand YUV, RGB etc. I believe that DV is YUV but I can't quite work out at what point it is converted to RGB in Vegas. Is it automatically or when rendered. Anyway this is by the by.

My real question is how to maximise quality in Vegas. Would it be to work in 32 bit colour space, edit and colour correct the work, and then render to an uncompressed format (huge file). Then use this is the master file for rendering to the final format, mpeg2, h.264, wmv etc. I assume rendering to an uncompressed format first would help the quality of the effect of any transitions, effects, colour correction.

You can render from the timeline directly to your output format with no loss of quality (not counting what the output codec is doing of course). You would only need to create an uncompressed intermediate file in special circumstances, such as:

1. Vegas does not have access to your desired codec but you can get it externally.

2. You want to render to several output formats simultaneously from a program like Procoder, and need a high quality source file for it.

You could possibly also use a frameserver program for both of these, rather than generate the huge uncompressed file.
