Vegas proxy editing AVCHD and NeoScene

Hi folks,

Just wondering if it was at all possible to use the proxy bait and switch trick on Vegas Pro 8.0c so I can trim and edit my videos using NeoScene AVIs but then delete them later (since they take up HUGE amounts of drive space) and have Vegas instead just look to the original AVCHD files later on down the line after all the slicing and cutting of the clips has been done.

Thanks :D

Yes, you can do that. But you will have to rename either the avi files as mts, or the mts files as avi. Otherwise Vegas will figure out that you are trying to fool it. Problem is, there might be a problem reading avi files with an .mts extension, it might confuse vegas as to which decoder to use. That's why, make a test first.

Well that's interesting...

I am currently doing a proxy workflow on a Canon 5D project. I have a root structure for the project (and for the sake of simplicity) I have subfolders called "Original", "Proxy", and "Graded".

I used Mpeg StreamClip in batch mode to create my proxy files I work on those, then do a media replacement to the files in the original subfolder.

This has worked beautifully.

Hey Eugenia,

Ill give it a bash tomorrow, just wondered if anyone had tried it out themselves. I was even thinking of hex editing a .veg file to see if I could manually change the names in the file.
