Vegas Pro-9 won't render project

Started a 5 minute SD project in Vegas Pro-8, migrated the project to Pro-9 to finish it. Everything smooth until I try to render, then the weirdness starts. Rendering hangs at zero. The dialog box pops up saying "rendering project.mpg" but there it goes on an on with nothing in the progress bar and the "time left to render" is going up exponentially, up to 8 hours before I figured something was wrong and cancelled. Tried to redo several times to no avail. I tried rendering the project to a .wmv and the same thing.
I had previously rendered an MP3 audio cut to go into the project w/o problem and tested rendering on another project and that is okay too. Unfortunately, this is happening on a bread and butter project I need to finish to get paid. Any ideas and or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Is the "Render Loop Region Only" box checked in your render settings? If so, either uncheck it, or select the whole project as a loop region. Maybe it'll help. I assume you've also tried restarting your computer? Hope you solve your problem!
 
Create a new project with the right project properties, and copy/paste one timeline to the other. The problem you are describing is usually a corrupted project, and this little trick usually fixes it.
