Vegas Pro 9 - Canon 60d question

Hello
i use sony vegas pro 9 for my editing and i want to buy a canon 60d for filming promo videos and short films

a little while ago my mum and brother bought a still camera each with video capabilities
mum's was one of those canon ixus 130s and my brother bought a panasonic one in a similar price range. i filmed a little 30 second sequence of my cats with both of them and tried to capture them using vegas but was unable to do so

does anyone have any ideas on why this might have happened ???
as you can imagine i dont want to buy the 60d and have the same problems.

i currently use a sony z1 as my main camera but thought i would get a 60d to complement it .
plus i dont own a still camera so i thought id kill two birds with one stone and save for a camera that was good at both.

thanks for any advice

You don't "capture" from digital cameras. You either use their USB cable, or the SD card directly, and you copy the MOV files on your PC, and then you load these files from your hard drive on Vegas. BTW, between the two small digital cameras you mentioned, the Canon is better, since it has more bitrate, exposure locking (important for pro-looking video), focus lock, and cinematic "flat" color abilities (low contrast/saturation/sharpness) over the Panasonic.

I shoot with the 60D, and its probably the best of the canon line for video. If you cant crank out the money for the 60d i'd go for the t3i for about 300 less and its pretty much the same thing, minus iso difference. I look at all the canon's and the swivel screen comes in handy when filming on the fly.

great thanks for the feedback, ive only ever used things like my z1 so im not used to this stuff, took me 2 minutes to film somthing and then get it on the computer.
now i can buy the 60d.
