I know most people are now using HDTVs, but still using a DVD player. I do wedding videos and was wondering whats better to use as a preview monitor for Vegas. I am using a 19" Samsung LCD for a preview monitor. Is anyone else using a LCD TV for previewing. Should I go back to my old Sony Wega CRT for previewing? I do alot of CC work and if the client is gonna view a DVD on an HDTV anyway should i just use an LCD for CC work?

I'd do it on the CRT, definitely. What looks good on it should like fine on the LCD, but not necessarily vice-versa.

Totally agree with, David.

A broadcast CRT monitor will give you the most accurate image and color rendering for color correction. I never do color correction without one.

But if you can't get a broadcast monitor you can definitely use color bars on your Wega to get close to accurate colors, but you have to make sure to calibrate it often. I believe it's also possible with LCDs usually certain calibration programs. I wish I could give you specific names, but I don't know any off the top of my head.

The cheap way I used to did it when I was a student was to make a dvd and then watch it on as many tv's as possible to see how it looked and from that make adjustments.

Best,
Andy

Thanks for the reply guys. will try my wega. I also have an old I-Art from JVC I think.
I also know of a WIDESCREEN CRT a friend of mine has from Sony XBR. ANDY: What broadcast monitors are people using for CC?

for preview i use a sony fw-900 (24 inch crt). it is ridiculously bulky, but once it warms up it is probably one of the best low budget options.
