VEGAS or TRIPOD?

I am stuck on a decision here. I think I know the answer. I need the fella's to hook me up with some wisdom.

I do not have a tripod.

I do not have VEGAS (but do have the NON 24p SUPPORTED MGI VIDEOWAVE)

I'm thinking I should hold off on VEGAS for the REAL DEAL films in my future and get my damn tripod so I can compose some nice shots...

If I get a TRIPOD for XMAS, I'll def have to wait until Middle of February for VEGAS.

Anyone?

use the Vegas demo for a month.. get a tripod first.

You need something to edit, and unless your a ninja you need a tripod to get good shots.

Sony might put out some specials after the holidays so you might get lucky getting vegas for cheap.

HAHAHHA JUst kidding.

Tripod it is. And I have already been reading the "What tripod to get" threads! I'll be scoping the Bogens. I do have a question on WHERE. EVS seems like a good enough place to get one.

That is where I got mine.. they got a special deal on the 503 head and the legs and spreaders and bag.

Tks Jarred. I'm at EVSonline as we speak! Funny, I told my wife if I got the DVX in October that it would be my XMAS present.

We all know that's the oldest trick in the book! Now I'm wrangling for the Bogen! lol

No thats not the one.. I got the 525 legs.. Carbon is cool but not necessary.

get the head... and you can get cheap legs to start.. but not to cheap, kinda defeats the purpose. At least you can upgrade the legs later and use the old ones for still photography or as a stand for something else.

As for the Cinnesaddle, It's great, but I made my own.

I'll get with EVS rep and inquire about my options. I am understanding that the Bogen 503 ballhead is the place to start and then we are talking about spending what I can on the sticks, right?

You made a cinesaddle? Oh, do tell me how!!!! I'm a big fan of building our own! (ie. dolly, etc)

So the Cinesadlle does what they say?

The CineSaddle is one of the greatest, most overpriced accessories in low-budget cinema. I've used mine as a car mount and the results are absolutely rock solid, every bit as good as the megabuxx hard car mounts. You could maybe achieve similar results with a bean-bag chair, but I'd be hesitant to risk a $3200 camera just because I was trying to save $300 or so.

CineSaddle works great. It's pricey, but it works.

I am assuming by cine saddle you mean the little bean bag that you put your camera on.. really easy, make a bag with a two ends that look like this :  |\_/| and fill it will dehydrated peas.

NO way. Dehy'd peas? The bag material? Leather? Vinyl? What? Any dimensions you reccomend? SHould the DVX be snug in the pocket, tight or loose?

you can use leather.. I used upholstery pleather.

You are the man. Thanks! You sewed it yourself? I can't think of a better alternative than this. Great.

When the peas are filled, are they 'crammed in to the rim' or is there room for play?

room for play.. it needs to be plyable.

I used pleather because it is waterproof and I didnt want my peas to get soggy.. It was really a quick test because I I didnt know if it would work.. and spending the money on leather if it didnt work would be a waste. The peas where just kicking around so i used them, you can probally use silicon kitty litter or something else (thats what I would use next time) . I put that pocket in because the real one had it, but I havnt found a use for it so you can save some time by scrapping that as well.
