Vegas on PS3

[FONT=arial,helvetica,verdana][FONT=arial,helvetica,verdana][SIZE=+0] It would be interesting to see Sony release a version of Vegas that runs on their PS3 OS.

You could attach external drives of footage and hookup a keyboard and mouse.

256MB of RAM isn't much to work with, but perhaps they could make it work in some capacity...

I'm sure someone could develop one, as long as it's not distributed. I'm looking to have some of my programmer/hacker friends do a version for Linux for me. We won't be giving it to anyone else, but they want the experience and to see if it can be done.

You would need to run Windows on the PS3; Vegas needs a number of things IN Windows. It can't run on another OS.

Don't know why you'd want to do this; even a netbook at the same price would better.

It will never happen. The PS3 architecture is totally different from PC's. And therefore so is the machine code and all programming languages (of which I suspect there is only one.)

The Software Development Kit for the PS3 is very expensive and has a huge learning curve, partially because the PS3 has 9 separate CPUs (one general purpose CPU controller and 8 so-called cell processors.) The cells each have 128 128-byte registers which dwarfs any Intel CPu on the market. And there are 8 of them running in parallel. (PS3's only use 7 so it can switch to a spare if one goes berserk.)

It is a shame though, because a PS3 can compute rings around any PC on the planet. My guess is Vegas on a PS3 would render HD video faster than real time. What a concept.

But Jim, think of the possibilities! Especially if we could run on other platforms.
