Vegas on mac - a wish

I really really wish Vegas Pro was available for OSX. I know it's never going to happen but it would be such a delight. Or I wish someone would develop a NLE just like it for mac.

The problem is I have to dual boot my mac into windows 7 to use Vegas. That's the only program I run under windows. It's such a pain that for one program only I have to have windows installed on my machine.

I've tried learning Premiere Pro and FCP, but they are just no where near as fast or a simple to use as Vegas pro.

Just the other day I tried doing a simple audio sync with Premiere Pro (it came with production premium) and I was literally pulling my hair out. Why is it that some Adobe products are incredible (After Effects, Encore, Photoshop) and are straight forward to learn, but others like premiere pro feel incredibly backwards and difficult to use?

If you take the time to learn premiere or final cut, your gonna be much better off in the end. And to be honest, the learning curve isn't as bad you think it will be. Vegas is actually slower to use and less capable to do complex editing techniques. Mac and final cut are extremely stable, give it a second try with an open mind , you'll see:)

Believe me I've been trying. It's not that I dislike them. I want to learn them. But they feel so so. I cannot do simple things like and audio sync in Premiere Pro. I ever asked people on the Premiere Pro forums and no one has given any good advice. Nor have I found any videos that show how I can slide an audio track in real time.

I'm with you roxics. I'm not a huge windows fan but I LOVE Vegas. It just does so many things quickly and easily. I also agree that it will probably never make it to the Mac - kind of a bummer...

I have a mac pro and I barely log into OSX, I work with Vegas and very heavy projects.
FCP? Right... the day they fix the gamma issues I´ll use it. I even paid for it but rarely use it.

Vegas uses too many underlying Windows functions to operate on another platform.

I like the Mac setup so I went with the 27" iMac with windows 7. I like Windows on it. I like having the big screen to work with. Haven't really found any issues using Vegas Pro 9 on it.

Yeah... finally I can come out of the closet and declare that I too LOVE Vegas!

I used to edit in Premiere Pro 1.5....would rip my hair out at the easiest tasks, bugs, crashes, deadly render times. Decided to try Vegas (version 7)...and haven't looked back.
I use Vegas Pro 9 now and it runs flawlessly with my AVCHD workflow.
Even bought FCS & a Mac G5 a few years back because I thought I might be missing something and I was right... it's a pain to use. (IMO) Then don't get me started on Apple leaving all us PPC users in the dust!

I have yet to find anything you can do in FCP that I can't accomplish in Vegas in half the time. (again, just MY opinion)
Still use my Mac's and PC's everyday... there's a tool for every job.

O.K., I know this is off topic...but am I the only one to notice all the snake pictures on the wall?
What's up with that? You must raise them? Do tell....

There is some sort of issue with people liking Vegas. I guess it falls into the whole thing like you can edit or be creative on Windows, you need a Mac. Or Canon for shooting DSLR video - everyone "has" to use Canon. But one thing I see time and time again - people love Vegas. I went from not knowing anything about it to editing a short film in a few days. I just installed Premiere and I cannot even make it work to preview a clip!

How about the reasons why "he would be better off in the end"? Granted I know nothing about Premiere, but the only thing I can possibly think of is compatibility with something like After Effects.

People told you that Premiere can slide audio tracks no problem. You can even link audio tracks with video track once you have them synced. Either some thing is wrong with your system or it is a Mac OS X thing. Premiere Pro can actualy edit audio beyond 30 FPS like most NLE.

I'm not an Apple person so I don't have the issue that you find yourself in but why not buy a PC for nothing but editing and you can run Vegas that way?

I know money is tight for most all these days but Vegas can run on "mid-range" computers without much trouble.

I use CS5 now but I still have Vegas 9 because it is fast to cut with and it just seems more logical in my book.

Good luck!

I'm pretty sure he's referring to 1) sliding the audio track with the waveform still visible, and 2) being able to slide a clip/track while the timeline is playing.

He could request those features but he did not state that info in his posts. He stated he could not get the audio tracks to slide which Premiere can do. It can also slide edit audio much more precise then the average 30 FPS allowing someone to precisely sync a triplet. I admit, the audio in Premiere could be better but it is not that bad when compared to the competition. For me it is a question of how often do I need precise syncing. For me it is rare. For others it may be part of an everyday workflow. In the end everyone will chose the platform and software that works best for their work flow. For me Premiere works better for my everyday work flow while others will prefer FCP or Vegas.

Just going by experience and what bugs Vegas users about Premiere. Those are two things likely to be run into in this specific case, and they're suggested by his statement, so it's likely they are among what he was referring to.
