Vegas Motion

Hi,

I was wondering how you give words a lighting effect. I see some videos and it looks like the word is being scanned by a light in the background. I was wondering if somebody can give me the steps to doing that. I heard it was something to do with pan and crop, but that's all I know. Sometimes the light looks like it's inside the letters. Like people use the lens flair and have it pan across the inside of the letters.

Which leads me to my next question, how do you get the lens flaire to motion across the screen?

Also, say something behind the camera is burning, and somebody is looking at it while the camera is focusing on him. How do you make that motion glow as if the fires glare is on his face or in the scene.

Also, how do you make the image shake or have a spinning type blur picture... WOW I need a tutorial... Because I don't even know digits to change where to get a 2:35:1 aspect in pan and crop...

Okay, somebody please reply... This place is great for a guy like me heh...

The lens flare effect has options where you pick the type of flare. Then you will see a small box with a square blob in the middle. You can move your slider down the timeline to suit and match your text. Then move the square blob and the lens effect moves on to the matching place on your video. A keyframe would have appeared. Now play back to review and fine tune as needed.

I was able to get an interesting “Light running across a title” by doing the following:

  • Make a mask image with a vertical band. I created a PNG that was all black with a vertical band of transparency. The image was around 1500 pixels wide, with the band of transparency in the middle around 75 pixels wide.
  • I created a copy of my title that matched exactly the title logo image, but was on transparency so that ONLY the tile showed.
  • I then set the brightness very high on the title PNG and applied a lens flare effect.
  • I then used the mask to overlay the title PGN, so that only the parts under the transparency of the mask would show through.
  • This all gets applied over the original title image.
  • Then I animated the mask to move this revealed light across the bottom title layer. By doing so I got the effect of a vertical light sweeping across the image, with the light rays shooting off only from the areas revealed by the mask.
  • I also played with the mask animation to rotate it a bit as it moves, and also animated the brightness and rays intensity so that it pops more in the middle of the animation.
Hope that gives you some ideas about how you might do this.

As Mark Says, It just proves that with a little thinking we can almost create anything within Vegas. I think what mark refers to as lens flare effect os actually the light rays effect. Do one thing just try the light rays filter as is on your text of bright color. Try moving the filter mid point around to see how it makes the rays move. Then see if you need some masking with 2 layers of the text to make the light rays conform only to some alphabets. Then keyframe accordingly to make them move over to other alphabets. But try it raw first. Sometimes it might create what you need. If not,, then go the 2 track way.
