Vegas/Lacie

I’m using a HP laptop for editing. I have a Lacie external hard drive connected to the laptop. What I do is click on my Vegas file (Vegas Pro 8.0A) on my desktop and when it opens up it pulls the footage from my external hard drive for my editing. Due to the laptop only having 320 GB and the Lacie has 1.5 TB this has worked great for me.

The question I have is should I have my Vegas file on my Lacie instead? I was wondering if my laptop crashed I can take the Lacie and hook it up to any other PC Laptop and still do my editing?

I hope this all made sense.

This is just personal preference but I would keep everything on the same drive. As you said, this way you can take it to another PC to work on and you'll only have one place to back everything up from.

I would keep it on the same drive as well. If you do that then yes, you can plug that drive into any computer with Vegas installed and you will be able to open the project.

I do this all the time. Home editing suite, laptop, work edit suite. Each one faster than the next. Works great, simplifies file management. If I have to work on a larger project, sometimes I will keep the actual media on the local drives of all the machines, and carry the .veg with me on a thumbdrive.

Just depends on the project I am working on.
