vegas installation problems

I'm new to vegas and just started using it for the first time. For the first few days everything was working great. Then I started having problems.

For some reason, the media manager wouldn't load properly and was caused vegas to freeze upon startup. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program several times -- and now I get this messag:

the MSSQUL$SONY_MEDIAMGR service does not exist or the current account does not have enough priveledge to manage it.

The problem is that this service DOES exist (in the sony shared utilities folder), but my computer will not recognize it anymore. Now I cannot use vegas unless I disable media manager? Any ideas?

P.S. Is media manager really that necessary anyway? What am I missing by not having it?

Thanks.

You need the latest .net to install this, and if you are on a single computer without a bunch of stock or common assets that you need to access/find, you might not need Media Manager. Some systems aren't compatible with Microsoft's SQL, or rather, some configurations have troubles with it. Maybe John Rofrano will show up, he's a total guru on SQL database stuff. Anyway, one way to fix is do a repair install of Vegas. You can also disable Media Manager in your General Prefs.
