Re: Vegas Help plz.....

Hi there, Caution,

I'll take a stab at answering your questions (although I'm not one of the usually experts here). My DVX is arriving today and I've been playing with Vegas (learning it) for several months.

With DVD clips, sometimes you can just move the files from you DVD to your harddisk and then open the VOB files in Vegas. I think I did this once. However, many DVDs don't allow Vegas to do this. They have copy protection. In that case, you can look at dvdrhelp.com or other places to find tools that can help.

I hear the Canopus analog/digital is fine. Your camera can do the same thing. The main thing you need is firewire, and if you'll be capturing analog, you can S-Video the analogue into a camera (instead of the Canopus) and through the firewire as long as your camera supports passthrough (the DVX does). In other words, unless you're doing a lot of analog capture (not DV through firewire), using the passthrough on your camera once in a while is fine. No reason to buy the Canopus.

The PAL version of the DVX (DVX100AE) is a different beast that uses European TV standards (different size, color handling, and frame rate). If you have to ask, don't worry about PAL. In the US, the PAL versions of some cameras (like the XL1) can be useful for film projects, but the 24p feature on the NTSC DVX handles that better than standard PAL for you. If you are in the US, you are in NTSC land. (Of coures, if you are in PAL land, get the PAL DVX).

Finally, to get the best quality, just use the firewire out of your camera. Unless you've got some really high-end gear and some special purposes, keep it digital and move things around digitally (firewire).

I hope this helps.

Everdene
