Vegas Help (Bad capture)

When I capture on Vegas, I drop almost every other frame, and the sound is unbearable, and I get the sparklie treatment.

When I capture on other programs, the video is fine.

Why is Vegas screwing me?

Also, when I preview video on an external camera, the big black blocks sway around the LCD.

And when I preview on the camera using other programs, the preview is fine.

I dont want to waste my time giving all my PC and RAM and video/audio card info, because everything works elsewhere, except on Vegas. (BTW, I am using a Monster 1394 FireWire cable. I thought it was the cable, and got it replaced. That was a lost cause)

Maybe one thing to help- all my USBs and FireWire ports, along with everything else, is hooked up to the motherboard.

Meaning nothing is using a PCI slot.

1) when you capture turn on SMART PREVIEW ( preview on computer is off only during capture)
2) turn on task manager - then capture to see if something else is running in background ... if other programs are using more then 5% turn off
3) make sure 1394 from computer goes direct to camera ( not to hard drive and then to camera = no dasiy chain camera - hard drives)
4) have you ran a hard drive speed test ?

make sure you have the newest version of Vegas .. are you running V5 or V6 ?
if V6 - are using Vegas EXTERNAL capture device ...

And if it didnt get any stranger, I open external capture, and I can WATCH and HEAR the footage just fine, but as soon as I hit capture, the dropping starts.

Naw, it plays back fine when its hooked up via to my Onkyo reciever (via "RCA" I think). And it captures fine on WMM and Roxio (though I dont know how to find if I dropped frames in the process.)

I'm having this problem too, when I hit capture, it goes for a half sec, then drops almost all the frames. Same settings as pto; V6, external cap.

Update the driver for the firewire card. If no help then you might try a using a pci 1394 card like the ADS Pyro 1394 64 card.
