Can you mix together several sd elements to make up a bigger HD video stream. Kind a like compositing, but seaming 4 SD images to make an HD image.

Can it be done? cause iwant to make an HD piece, for an art project im working, and its all gonna be different video streams seamed together. but it would be cool if they remained the same resolution, just smaller.

Ok, you can, but how are you going to deliver the HiDef image? Currently there's no real way to burn a disc and play it in a player that I know of. You'd have to somehow play on a computer I imagine.

Mike Figgis did this with his movie TimeCode. Shot four DSR500 standard-def cameras, then posted them together so that all four images were on one screen, giving a 1440x960 image (which almost exactly matches HDCAM's 1440x1080 recording format).

oh cool... it is possible.

Do you just drop SD in to an HD timeline and match em up?

or do you need a specail program?

ok i just dropped SD into an HD timeline, 1080 24P, in Vegas. VEgas automatically uprezzed the footage to HD size. and it looked kinda ok. But it seems really easy to just piece them together. Thanks you guys. this next piece is gonna be Awesome. I just have to figure out how to show it. cause apparently theres no simple way of displaying HD footage right now. ( i dont have a laptop)

errrm - my DVD player can play WMV HD...as can a couple of others - I have the Buffalo LinkTheater...

you could try that...or a laptop as you pointed out...
