Vegas + Greenscreen=???

I just finsihed building a greenscreen in my garage. I have been playing with even lighting and taking the subject away from the background, using different lights, etc, etc. I'm surprised at the results I'm getting with Vegas. I must say it looks pretty decent. My thing is that if I have a person walking on the streets at night, or something along those lines, how would I go about creating shadows on the floor? I know there are other more suitable programs out there - i.e. Ultra 2 and AE. I just can't afford them right now. I wonder if you could do a batch with photoshop...

Any ideas?

The easiest way to do that is to have a greenscreen setup that the actor can walk on. That way, the shadows will exist naturally.

yes, both wall and floor in green makes everything look better. As long as you have your subject far enough away so that the green doesn't bounce onto them and your lighting is even, it can turn out really great.

I have the floor greenscreened about 4 feet or so. I can get the talent far away from the wall by adding more layers on the floor but if they're standing on some of it it probably will cause some green spill too.
Won't it? No mid air levitations.

jga > Yes there will be some spill but if uve chosen a very soft lght for lighting the ground i dont think ull land up in any serious Problems. Secondly the best way to make a person walk down a street means a looooong green screen. LOL. Ill give u a cute idea....go outdoors and lay a long green carpet. Now shoot the person walking from any high angle so that you are high enough that his entire body is having the carpet only as its background. Thats it. Render ur CG street to match the angle of this shot. If its a photo or somethin then work the other way around,,,ie. Try to match your camera angle to shoot from the same angle u think the photo was taken. Thats it. Get the clip into Vegas. Draw a mask around the area hes walking ensuring other parts such as ground on both sides, buildings etc etc are eliminated. Then in vegas drop chroma filter onto it with your photo on the lower track in your timeline. Youll have your own skycaptain flick. There are several ways to cheat too. You can create a difussed look. By using blurs (on the entire frame) and chroma blurs etc to give it a dreamy and more believable atmostphere ala skycaptain. This will hide any flaws that may occur during the keying, chroma abberations, due to your lighting etc. If you play with the tolerance sliders you can reach a level where the shadows on your green carpet look semitransparent (as if its a real shadow falling on the photo street). But remm that the angles should match. Hope this helps you. Im no expert. Just trying to tell you what i know. Bye.
