hey guys im new to this site and have a question
what are some of the programs or plugins that can be used in general for a screen or if i can do it in vegas at all

Hmm. Id say yes too. But last night i had some slight problems. David...if you remmember in a thread posted shortly on wiping out greenscreen tracking marks you suggested the idea of using animated bezier masks to create a garbage matte. Concept wise its working out fine. I tried it out too. But there seems to be a serious problem in doing that. Ill try to explain it as plainly as possible. If we were doing a outright chroma keying as in just replacing the entire chroma screen. Vegas is great there. But when we do the garbage masking thing it becomes almost near impossible to get a good key. Because...when u do a simple chroma keying. Vegas is not able to make the green 100% transparent. The chroma'd green takes on a slight greyish tint. Now when we use this on the entire frame no problem. The entire background will take on this slight shading so noone will know the difference and its possible to tweak and do justice to the foreground image. But .....If we garbage mask the chroma screen (in order to eliminate markers etc) then what happens is.....the mask is clearly visible. The chroma keyed area is a different color and the area cleared as garbage is completely transparent yielding a brighter color tone. Its very difficult to tweak the chroma keyer from there given the simple controls. Lower the tolerance enough to make the green 100% transparent and the subject starts getting blotchy holes and patches in their body. Go upwards on the controls and the subject is fully normal but the green has taken on a hue. Of course there might be some workarounds to this such as colour correcting the background footage to become duller so that it matches etc. Sill you can see a stainy outline of where the garbage mask is. The i tried feathering it. But still someone with an asute eye will make it out plus it murks up the clarity of the background footage. Ive lost all hope and am sitting baffled as to what im gonna do. All my ideas for my forthcoming feature is based on chroma. And im stumped. Do you have any suggestions to handle this problem David ?

Yes, you should tweak the greenscreen with color correction prior to the key.

You can also use the eyedropper in the chromakey editor to select the exact color to key.

The sliders should help. If you're getting blotchy holes in the subject, it's because you have some green on it. Avoid that.

As for the faint outline, go into the clip effects editor and click on the trianlges next to the timelines.

Also, apply the bezier mask before you apply the other effects.

David > Hi....I havent applied any other effects. So i dunno if the post or pre toggle triangles would actually make much of a difference but ill give it another shot. But the footage has absolutely no green spill on the subject. In fact its from a professional greenscreen job of someone elses. I downloaded it only for practice sake. Its from a pro studio and theres no spillage. By apply the bezier mask before applying other effects you mean first start garbage matting then add chroma keyer etc ? Thats what ive been doing anyway. I saw the same footage keyed by them (their final result of the the same chroma shot). ie the postproduced version of their clip and its clean and amazing.

David ill go get the footage. But how will i post the footage here ?? If i cant,, even if i can post an image here ull get the idea. I really dont seem to have it figured how to post videos and images here ? Do i need an external account on the net somewhere ? Or can i post natively here on the forum ? Thanks for offering to help as usual.

Its from a site called vegasusers.com. They have a section for only videos made in vegas. Theres this guy called Stonefield. Dont know if youve heard of him he does a lot of model based stuff. Like ramp walks etc. With new faces and so on. He makes short clips of each new face model and posts them there. He goes by the name stonefield. Can i send it to you by mail its about 3mb or so ? I seriously doubt that he might be a member here too. I also wanted to ask you. Since you own a DVX. How is the keying come off from dvx footage ? since its progressive and all that.
