I am thinking about buying a mac pro but i am wondering if any of you think that the next vegas might be able to run on a MAC? i heard you could already run it on the MACBOOK but does anyone know if it will be possible to run it on a PRO if not now later?

Vegas for Mac OS - when pigs fly
Vegas for windows running on MAC, can be done with any Mac running Pentium procs through bootcamp.

Scharky,

Do you know anyone that has successfully done this yet? I called Sony yesterday and they wouldn't say either way - just that it is not a "supported" environment. The only reason I would install bootcamp on my mac is for Vegas (which I already run on a Windows box) and so I'm trying not to be the guinea pig. ;-)

Thanks!

Phil

I am looking at the exact same scenario. Was looking to buy a Dell Laptop cause I already own Vegas. Someone told me to look at a MacBook Pro instead.

If this can be done, I would really appreciate feedback on whats steps are necessary to achieve it?

Thanks (in anticipation).

Well, you should think about why you want a MacBook. Are there Mac-only apps you're really dying to have? If not, there's not much point. It's not like the hardware is superior or faster.

But if there is, and you really want a MacBook, then you install Bootcamp and Windows XP. Then, it's just like anything else in XP.

David,

Without starting a religious discussion (Windows vs. MacOS) let me just say, that as a diehard Windows user that was forced to buy a Mac (BoomRecorder only runs on a Mac, see my discussion on that great product in the Audio forum), let me just say that I'm very impressed with the performace of the Mac. But, I AM in a situation where I have to have a Mac and now am hoping to reduce my computer inventory. I will keep everyone posted on how my test goes - I need to test Vegas, SoundForge, Acid and Flash and have them all work to be successful.

Not sure why you took my post as anything other than very practical advice. Certainly nothing "religious" about it.

If you want a Mac, get a Mac -- but don't do it because you think Windows apps will run better on it.

Sorry, I was typing tired. I meant I wasn't trying to stir people up into an argument over which is better...I totally got your post and agree with it 100%!

Good advice. I would be buying a macbook pro with a view to using Vegas, not with a view to using mac software. All things being (relatively) equal, it does make more sense to stick with what I know (which in this case is pc).

I bought some audio gear yesterday and admittedly the seller was a mac authorised reseller. He had mountains of praise about macbook pro (thus my interest). I might price a spec'd up XPS this time round and consider mac later if there is a particular mac application that I require.

Thanks again guys for the advice and discussion.
