Fishing for feedback on using vegas pro with Sony XDCAM EX-3 footage and a laptop. The laptop will be new and well configured to handle the specs. But one never knows...

will I get plenty of real time editing?
I plan on using the DVi output to a program monitor. The graphics processor will be at least a 500mhz card. The proc will be 2.8ghz and I'll have at least 4g ram

Spec Looks good for a field computer. I've done field editing before, working on HDV footy with 2.5ghz core2duo and 2gig ram laptop, but it wasn't comfortable and the render times were not spectacular. real-time editing was possible on it in 8bit colorspace using a single color-corrector. You would prob get real-time editing in 8bit but If you wanna work in 32bit, expect a 50-65% frame rate drop once you start adding color-correctors and other fun stuff.

good enough for a field comp but for seriouse editing work, a quadcore (or two) is your best bet for now.

I could be wrong. Im not sure how XDCAM compares with HDV.
