Vegas & DVD Architect presets for DVX(a&b) squeeze mode

Hi all - I'm editing a multi-cam shoot using Sony Vegas 8.0. I have three DVX cameras that I used to use for this shoot, but since the original DVX doesn't have the 'squeeze mode' I decided to make it a two-camera shoot using my 100A & 100B models.

Having never used the squeeze option before (I used letterbox previously), I'm not sure which property presets to use. I am shooting in the 24P advanced mode.

My assumption is to use the 'NTSC DV 24p Widescreen (720x480, 23.976 fps)' setting. Then, for the MPEG-2 render, use the 'DVD Architect 24p NTSC Widescreen video stream' template. The final output is for standard DVD.

Please let me know if I'm right or wrong, or if I'm missing a part of the puzzle. Thanks in advance!

You are correct. You'd be correct with the original DVX, too, but you'd have to crop the footage.

Be sure to shoot with Vert. Det. Freq. of THIN.

Thanks much for the speedy reply, David. Amazing ... so what you're saying is that I can actually continue making these three-cam shoots with the DVX100 footage cropped in post ... that's great news! I'll have to try that out and learn the workflow. Thanks again.

You can, but you may see a slight resolution difference between them (the 100 being slightly lower). Of course, that'll be minor next to trying get all the colors to match. :)

David - I've shot some footage of a concert using the DVX100 in the 24PA mode (to be mixed with squeeze footage from a DVXa and b). What is the best way to achieve the cropping you mentioned above in Sony Vegas?

Thanks for your help in these forums.

Edit on a 24p DV Widescreen timeline, go to pan/crop, right-click on the image, and choose "Match output aspect."
