Vegas different from Premiere

Ok, I just taped a little bit of myself waving my hand and such at 24p normal and captured it in Premiere.

When I go frame by frame in premiere the motion blur flickers quite a bit. When I pull the same clip into vegas, no flicker whatsoever.

Then I took X-men 2 popped in and went frame by frame and it had no flicker on motion blur. So I'm guessing the flicker is bad. Why would premiere do this (flicker) and not vegas? What causes it?

Which version of Premiere? Premiere didn't do 24p until Pro 1.5. If it's not that version, and you're not working on a 24p timeline, you're looking at INTERLACED, baby.

premiere 1.5. But I heard that premiere had problems with 24P, that why I went to vegas.

I forgot to mention, I'm looking at it on a TV and thats when I see the flicker. And its when I have the footage paused.

You must be either on a 60i timeline, or pulldown wasn't removed, because flicker is an interlaced thing.

Now, I don't know exactly what hoops you have to jump through to get pulldown removed in Premiere; in Vegas, you only have to drop a clip on a 24p timeline. It's that easy.

Honestly, if you're working in 24p, I can't IMAGINE why anyone would want to use anything other than Vegas (unless you have to network or something and have no choice). But that's just me.

The timeline i was working on in premiere was 60i, but I thought that 24P normal just transferred over to 60i if you were working on a 60i timeline.

Do I have to work with 24p normal footage like its progessive and then interlace it when I export (this is going to beta for the TV stations)?

If you’re not working on a 24p timeline, you’re dealing with 60i footage with 2:3 or 2:3:3:2 pulldown, meaning there are frames which will have interlacing artifacts and will produce flicker. If you step through, you’ll find those frames.

If you’re working with 24p footage, it’s always best just to edit in 24p. When you go to export, you can do anything you want with it.

So I should just edit 24P and then interlace it when exporting the final file? (The stations take the file and put it on beta) When I do that I should apply the 2:3 pulldown right?
