Vegas crashing when .veg files opened

I'm not sure as I have never run into this before. When I open a .veg file I get the following error. This has never happened before. I captured the orig footage in HD and have been putting it into DV 720x480 projects.
I've tried double clicking in the Explorer window and going to the File dropdown at the top. Running out of ideas here .... a little help???

Download the latest trial Pro version, install it, and see if the VEG opens without crashing. If yes, then you might want to redo the project, or upgrade your version of Vegas.

Try opening the corresponding NAME.veg.bak file. You have to do it through File>Open.
