Vegas Crashing - Cannot get anything out of it!

Don't know if anyone can help me on this one.

I have a 5 minute short I cut and did sound design on in Vegas using 1080p Cineform files (converted from .R3D files but that shouldn't matter). The project opens and runs fine, I can cut edit and save back to the original file, but I cannot get anything out of Vegas by rendering at all.

I've tried all flavors and codecs of .avi and .wmv and Vegas will start to render but somewhere (could be several seconds or several minutes) Vegas will either completely quit with no warning or error messages, or it will come up with an "exeption" and then quit.

I tried saving it along with copy/trim media to another HDD to see if it will render on another computer I have Vegas on but it go halfway through that and threw another exeption at me then quit.

I'm running 7.0e on Vista (32bit) and haven't changed anything system wide since starting this edit.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I really don't want to have to edit this thing all over again (and who's to say the exact same thing won't happen?)

I think the problem is that you are using an older version. Download the 8.0c trial, install it in parallel, copy the project file as a new file, open it with the new vegas, and do the export via it instead. It should work.

William - I concur with the above posts. I happily used 6, pretty much gave up on 7 (i.e, I went back to 6), but now I'm happy again with 8. Having said that, I'm guessing that it could be a timecode issue. A potential solution is to run the video files through freeware like HDVsplit. I've had to do this with a small percentage of clips I capture with the Focus Firestore products. Seems to clean the m2t files right up and then Vegas is happy again. Good luck.

Oh, I should have mentioned that you may be able to simplify things by isolating the bad file. In other words, attempt another render and identify what event is being rendered when Vegas quits. Run that file through HDV split (and perhaps the event just before and just after as well). Good luck.

Yup, upgrade to the latest version. I was running 8.0b on my Vista64 box w/8GB of RAM and it crashed all the time. I updated to 8.0c and now it runs great--no crashes. Keeping up to date is extremely important.
