I cant seem to find any Audio effects in vegas. Im looking to distort sound to sound like old dammaged reel to reel tape. like from the 50's or 60's. Do i need an external editor, or are there like audio effects hidden somewhere.

Re: Vegas Audio

There are audio effects in Vegas, but I am assuming they are not the ones you need? Just in case you don't know, you can click on effects icon in the audio track and pick and adjust the various audio effects (reverb, etc, etc) that may be of interest.

Re: Vegas Audio

Izotope makes some great audio plugins (especially Ozone) and I'm sure Vinyl is good, but it's going to simulate an LP, not a tape. You should be able to use some of the stock audio plugins to help simulate a damaged tape effect. You can add lots of wow and flutter by keying some cyclic slow and fast pitch changes. Also some velocity changes would be in order. Use the parametric equalizer to cut off the high and low ends. A little hiss would also be good--maybe you can record some hiss from your audio system cranked up, or just loop some white noise and layer that in your mix. Another alternative is just to buy or borrow an old cassette or reel-to-reel recorder and get the effects organically.

Re: Vegas Audio

you see the big prblm is that i dont know what any of the effects do, i have little knowledge in audio production. I was playing wiht it for like 5 hours last night, and didint get anywhere. EX: I opened the "deform" box, moved the setting s around, but it seemed to do nothing. Maybe it doesnt do what i think the title suggests. If anyone knows of a book or website that explains what the audio terms mean. like definintions Reverb = blah blah blah ETC.

Its easy in video effects cause yu can see waht happenes. but the audio stuf is a little more subtle i think.

Re: Vegas Audio

I think you need to read the Vegas manual, it's actually pretty well-written. Beyond that, Jay Rose's audio books are both excellent. If you want me to give you a hand, you could e-mail me a high quality MP3 track and I could give it the funky tape treatment for you.

Oh shoot i forgot about the vegas PDF. I kept lookin inthat yellow spiral bound booklet. that thing is too brief. I will look up that book though.

Also, try clicking on some of the default settings in the box that opens when you select a particular audio fx icon. Also, if you are not observing any effects when you change the settings, make sure that the chain plug-in icon at the top of the settings box has a checkmark in it, otherwise the audio fx is disabled.
