Vegas Audio - Auto gain increase???!

I've never experienced or noticed this before, but I've also never had a complete professional do my audio mix for me. He sends me an AIFF file that's completely normalized on his end, with no peaking .... I import it into the project, and it's peaking at up to 5.8db over.

I KNOW it's Vegas that's adding to the gain, because when I take that full project, and import it into another (project nesting), the db is now INCREASED all the way up to 11.3 peaking, nearly double the original project.

Anyone know of any settings to go into Vegas & turn off some kind of default audio gain? I've looked in standard project settings, Master Audio Bus, the audio tracks, etc. All are at default 0.0, no additional gains.

Doesn't make any sense to me....

Help??

Hmmm. I just tried to repeat that with an AIFF generated by Apple Soundtrack Pro, and I don't see any gain increase in Vegas. Not sure what's going on there -- no reason to think that AIFF would be somehow different from this one?

David, I LOVE your avatar ... what I was just doing a bit a go, lol, pulling my hair out.

I checked out my preferences, nothing. Then I thought I'd go ahead & make the Master Audio Bus track visible, and checked the FX on it ... I saw that I had quite a while ago played with the EQ levels in there, and jacked the gain. BINGO! Problem solved.

I'd just delete this thread, but if anyone else ever runs into an issue, maybe this will help them to remember to check similar things, especially if the project has spread over a period of time, etc.
