Vegas and HDV?

Basically the deal is this, I need to digitize an entire tape, blur out a section of the frame (classified materials), then output that back onto a fresh HDV tape that I am allowed to have. I want to be able to just plug the deck into the computer via firewire, use built in presets in the NLE for HDV settings, and then do the digitize and output. How good would Vegas be for this scenario? And can I do this with version 6 or would I really have to make sure to get version 7?

I'm an FCP guy, and this isn't for me, its to be setup on the system of the people having to do the blurring. They are on PCs, so looking for a simple and inexpensive way to be able to get them to do this for us (and maintain our native resolution, which is/was HDV).

cheers.

Vegas 6 can do this quite easily. What you do is duplicate the track, then place a Gaussian Blur on the upper track followed by a Cookie Cutter filter. Just size and position the cookie over the part that should be blurred and you’re done. You can even keyframe the cookie cutter position and size if the object is moving. Alternately you could use a Pixelate Filter instead of the blur. All this can be done to an entire track at once or on individual events. Quite simple in Vegas.
