vegas and DVX sound question

So this is my 3rd question in as many days, and hopefully someone has a suggestion on this one. I used Vegas 6 for years on my old machine but built a new computer and upgraded to 7. I've never had this problem before and it is bizarre. When doing a batch capture I will hear sound from the camera (DVX-100a) during logging and for the first clip or two of the batch but after that the level meters on the camera go blank. You won't hear anything over the headphones, nor the computer, nor the camera's on camera speaker. Like I said, the level meters are not registering that there even is any sound, but I know there is. After the footage is captured and the batch is complete you can hear the sound in the captured clips just fine.

Is this a camera problem? I don't' see how it is as the camera works fine, but I also don't understand how, if the camera is just playing, no sound would come out of the headphones or audio out directly from the camera.

Anyone?

Thanks,
Eric

I often have a similar problem where the audio sometimes seems to lag behind the video playback by a good 5 or 6 frames. However, when it’s done transferring the audio and video is perfectly in sync. It doesn’t always happen, just sometimes. But the good news is that in either case, the transferred files are fine.

If the levels meters on the camera itself fall blank, I don't think it's a Vegas issue. Not sure what's going on, though.

Munchy,

This and the pass through post tend to lean me towards an issue with your camera - can you play back the tape in the camera without firewire connected and get audio levels read through the entire tape or is this an issue with or without firewire?

My first though would be that you could have an issue with the firewire port on the cam, maybe the cable or maybe the port / bus on your computer - the fact that the files are getting there with audio after the fact is strange however -

are you using an onboard firewire port on your machine or are you using a card (SIIG / ADS) ?

maybe try another firewire cable just for kicks and giggles?
