Vegas 9 is the most solid version

Hi all. I just thought I'd say as a long term Vegas user - in the ninth year now! - Vegas 9 is the most solid version of any release. I have versions 10 and 11 but I find they crash quite frequently. Especially when you use the new text feature that came with 11. Often I many have 12 hours of footage in an edit, and version 9 has no issues with this at all. However I have often tried to bring this media into 10 and 11 and they just crash.

I would like to use the newer versions but as long as 9 is so reliable, I am sticking with it.

I agree... With my FT job I use it and it NEVER crashes. Unfortunately all the features lured me into 11 to edit a wedding film for a side gig. Always crashing no that I have color corrected.

The one thing 9 doesnt have that I want bad, stabilization and stabilization.

i agree until my audio plugins ceased working. but it's no biggie, i edit my audio in adobe audition.

I too agree. Vegas Pro 9 has been rock solid for me and my AVCHD workflow. What I'd like to see is not only stabilization, but AAF export in the 64bit version....I used that all the time to bring projects into After Effects and back.

I loved 9... You are completely right about it being rock solid. That being said, I've been working in 10 for several years now and it is by far my preferred version. Very rarely does it crash.

11, on the other hand, is a piece of junk. They butchered the stabilization plugin, and somehow ruined a perfectly good NLE. Even on a great machine 11 will crash on simple tasks. I wish I had never spent the money on 11.. The GPU updates aren't worth it if the stabilization plugin sucks.

I haven't had many problems with 11 (the latest version is more stable), but having used both 9 and 10 extensively on my last film I must say that I find both to be highly stable on my system (as long as they have the latest updates).

I use Vegas 11 day in day out for my business and it never crashes, it's been an awesome product for me and it's gpu accelerated encoding and scripting are a godsend. I sometimes wonder if some people are getting more crashes than others due to their hardware since Vegas will stress hardware a fair amount. For example I had one computer that was a bit unstable on Vegas and it turned out to be due to a generic brand power supply that wasn't able to supply continuous power well enough. That same machine worked well on all other apps, but with Vegas it occaisionally crashed. Changing the power supply made Vegas crashes completely go away on that box. Other cases I've seen is overzealous overclocking, one case they had their ram clocked too high and simply dialing that back a bit eliminated crashes. Again in that case other apps ran fine and only Vegas was crashing until ram speed was set correctly, then the crahes went away.

I bought proDAD Mercalli for 9, before they built it into 10. The current version they have available for purchase will still work with 9:

It has more manually configurable options than what was built in to 10 and 11, so you can add it to 10 (and possibly 11, but I haven't tried it) if you want more control over the built-in version.

How does 9 handle AVC footage? Is it as efficient as 11? I may look to pick up a used version of 9 in the near future.

I too am having problems with 11 but as joker454 alluded to, I think it may be due to my hardware.

Btw- most stable version? 4! I used 4 up until 2 years ago! Never crashed on me on any computer. Those were the days(Pre-HD)...

Vegas 9 is great with AVC footage, never had any problems. I stand by saying version 9 is the most solid version. I have 10 and 11 and they are unreliable. I would LOVE if 11 was stable and the New Blue titler worked without ANY hitches as I think it is a great tool. But my system keeps crashing after I have about 2 or 3 of its text files on the timeline when I try to then open one to edit it slightly - this happens everytime. Its a real shame as it would save me going to after effects to create impressive text, but it justn't function properly, that is for me anyhow. I had the same problem with Boris Continium, after spending £300 on it, I couldn't use it as it kept crashing within Vegas. x
