Vegas 9 DVDA 5

I'm looking for some tutorials on DVDA 5. Isn't the audio and video supposed to be rendered separately before importing into DVDA? I looked at some tutorials on youtube and it looked like people were just importing a readymade avi file.

Any good tutorial videos on dvda workflows?

When you create the Mpeg2 file in Vegas, if you try to render the audio with it, it produces an audio file type that cannot be used on a DVD. This is why you render it separately.

An AVI file brought into DVDA is going to be recompressed inside DVDA anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

When you import an AVI file into DVDA, it will re-render it into MPEG-2 video and AC-3 audio (unless you have the DVDA project properties for audio set to PCM, but that's not the default setting). This approach slows down the DVD authoring process and gives you less control over the quality of the rendered video.

Won't importing an avi into DVDA also cause generation loss since dvda with transcode to mpeg2?

If you're making a DVD (as in DVD-Video) , you're going to incur that loss at some point in your workflow anyway...

You need an DVD compliant MPEG2 video stream to author a DVD-Video

No, not in the sense you mean. If there's any generation loss, it would come from rendering to AVI (depending on how you do it), not from importing into DVDA.
