Vegas 9.0 stops working all together while editing T2i footage past 1 min and a half?

I have done two projects on with Sony Vegas and T2i footage and both times when I get past 1:30 the program starts to lag and crash every minute after i reopen it. I am transcoding the files to the AVID codec with mpeg streamclip. The first time I was able to save the project file and finish it in 8.0 pro. The project im working on now wont even let me get back into the file to resave it to get into 8.0. While trying to load the .veg file it gets to about 43% then flashes a error message and cuts off. Does anyone know how to fix this problem. This project is due on Thursday night and I would hate to have to start all over again.

I personally have gone back to Pro 8 and have seen no crashes, while I get lots of crashes with Cineform and Pro 9 (red frames in the timeline, which later create some black frames in the preview window, and then subsequently, frequent crashes). So the only suggestion I can have for you is to restart the project from scratch on Pro 8. Maybe someone else has a better idea how to salvage the existing project.

If you're going to go that route, before restarting from scratch, I'd try copy/pasting from the V9 timeline to the V8 timeline. Not always possible from a newer version to an older version, but sometimes it works.

@Eugenia-Which build would you suggest I use?

@David Jimerson-I cant even get the file to load up to even attempt to copy it :-(

I had this same problem with my 5d/7d project when I started replacing my Raylight avi's( that I was using as an intermediate like cineform) with the original h.264 files. This was initially in Vegas 8.0c and happened even when I tried Vegas 9.0c.

My only workaround was I had to split up my 9 minute project into about 9 separate projects finish my edit then export uncompressed quicktimes that I conformed later in one project. It was a hassle but it worked in the end.

Another alternative that may solve the problem would be to give the DVFilm Epic I demo a shot. It has shown to be a lot more robust using quicktime movies files than even Vegas with the original Quicktime plugin. Testing the demo with my 9 minute project does not have any of the same crashes as using the original h.264 quicktimes. The demo only gives you use of 5 secs of the clip, but will show you how it functions.

The free demo can be downloaded here. Right now it only supports Vegas 9/32bit.

Hope this helps,
Andy Olson
