I'm just getting started in video--long time still shooter using lots of graphic apps over the years, but need some good basic knowledge for video. Can you suggest a really good book (I dled the Movie Studio 9 platinum trial), have imported my files and have some idea, but I'd rather start out right.

Thanks for help.

Haven't seen any v9 stuff (other than the Sony-supplied manual which is pretty good), but I totally recommend Douglas Spotted Eagle's Vegas Pro 8 Editing Workshop book - obviously it doesn't cover v9 features, but 95% of it is still very applicable in v9.

Yes, I agree with Clang but understand that Spot is working on a Pro 9 book which should be out soon. Unfortunately its relese seems to have been delayed because of the horrendous accident he suffered when sky diving - thank goodness he seems to be recovering well although this has involved considerable will-power and strength of purpose on his part.

I'd also recommend taking a look at Gary Kleiner's tutorials. While Sony Vegas Pro has the best product ambassador in DSE (he's worth his weight in Gold for his dedication to answering questions in almost every Vegas forum in existence), I find Gary's tutorial style very detailed and methodical. The video practice sample files make for concrete grasping of an edit and the flash file versions of the tutorial are small and high res, perfect for keeping on your laptop at all times.

His current V8 tutorial+V9 primer translates well to V9. His DVD Architect 5 tutorials really helped me utilize and navigate an application I don't find nearly as intuitive as Vegas.
