Spanky,

Call me if you still have my number - if not, PM me and I'll get it to you. I can show you both running on Kory's machine and pros / cons of each.

Here is my own personal experience. It may be a little long winded but I'll try and keep it short.

I grew up using premiere, always loved it until I bought a DVX. At that time I was still using premiere 6.0 and premiere Pro 1.0 was just being released. I upgraded to Pro 1.0 and immediately found it buggy and it had limited 24p support. I lost projects, projects quit while I was working one them etc. At that time I started looking for other options and found Sonic foundry's Vegas 4.0. I immediately fell in love and have been using it ever since. I upgraded to 5 then 6, 7 and now I am on 8, and I have to say that my long love for Vegas is coming to an end. I wish I could love Vegas forever, I love it's ability to edit anything, export to anything on any timeline, mixed footage change project settings mid project etc. but the same things that plagued Premiere Pro 1.0 are now starting to show up in vegas. I never had vegas crash on me once when using 4.0. 5.0 I don't remember any big problems, 6.0 had a few glitches but nothing big, but 7 and 8 come on sony. What have you done? Now that sony seems to be shifting their focus on primarly supporting their own camera workflow, vegas has lost it's magic with me. It is unstable at times (although I think cineform has alot to do with this, using NEO HDV). It really hasn't seen any big updates since V5, don't get me wrong things that needed to be updated were, but nothing groundbreaking since version 5 where 3D track motion was introduced.
So a few weeks ago I updated my Premiere liscenece to CS3, allready have Photoshop CS3 and After effects CS3. I have not started using it yet becasue I am knee deep in several big projects, but I see that being my goto here in a few more months. I'm sure I will keep vegas around for it's edit everything ability, but I think it may be time to give adobe another shot.
