Aside from format issues with DVCPROHD, how does Vegas compare function-wise to Premiere Pro?

Cheers

Premiere Pro vs Vegas 8

Premiere Pro vs Vegas 8

Has any Premiere users used Vegas 8 or Vegas before?

What have been your experiences?

i just switched to premiere... Its a harder program to get used to but once you do it is nicer. I love how you can just grab and resize the frame. I like the color correction tools better too. I would say use premiere, i wish i woulda learned premiere from the get go

I have both systems and prefer Vegas 8. However, Premier handles .mxf files natively without having to use any filtering. I simply load my .mxf footage in Premier and render it out as an .avi and edit in Vegas.

i prefer premiere over vegas 8. i have used vegas many times, and i now own premiere pro cs4. i think adobe software beats anything its competing with. i used final cut pro mainly before i converted to premiere, and i was able to learn premiere in about 5 hours. im not super fond of its dv control however, but thats just me.

If the comparing between vegas and premiere, you should not hink just a second.I know you scared to get used to a new NLE but for premiere it takes a day, believe me not even more. And this is not make it amateur software. All you need is including in adobe packages, once you order ,you will not need anything else.

For mxf supporting, i have not seen any editing software this much native on smthng, even on avid sometimes complicated, but premiere works with it like its own extension...

good luck

I've been using Vegas since it was 6.0. I have become very efficient in it and think it's amazing but I've been trying to learn Premiere CS4 to prepare for editing Red Scarlet footage natively. My brain might always be wired for Vegas, and I'll always have a special place for it in my heart, but Premiere doesn't seem as hard to learn as I thought it would be.

I had Vegas 2.0 for about a month and sold it. The GUI is just wierd to me. My friend has the demo of Vegas Pro 8. He will later download Premiere Pro CS4. I think just trimming, CC and audio editing (Soundbooth) in Premiere is much easier. Premiere Pro has a great GUI. It is laid out much better than Vegas Pro 8 in my opinion. I have the CS4 Master Collection. It has all the bells and whistles.

Both Vegas and Premiere Pro can out put to an NTSC monitor using the computer's graphics card. It is great for on the fly edits for your clients.

Both the Premiere and Vegas interfaces can be laid out any way you want them to be. I use both and have them laid out as close to exactly the same as possible.

(I really hope, by the way, you're not going by what was true in Vegas 2.0 when making a comparison to current software.)

I know I'm a little late to the party but I was a stone cold Adobe freak but Vegas is better than Premiere to me.

I think it is more logical in the layout [or after I set it up to my taste].
I find it faster, less resource needy and the Vegas encoder seems to out put cleaner files because you have more control over the render settings.

I still use/need Web Premium from Adobe but once I moved to Vegas I've been cutting faster and easier.
I can't see going back to Premiere Pro full time...

But in the end it's more about what you need and like, so I'd try the demo's of both and go from there.

I think if more people tried Vegas or if they had a Mac copy, more people would cut with it.

I use premiere pro because Adobe programs are easy to use. And they all run flawlessly together. Once you have learned one, you can easily work the others.

cut in premiere pro, open the project in After Effects and render from there.

NOTHING beats the quality of After Effects render engine, again, NOTHING.

My friend has Vegas 8. I already stated this. With my Nvidia card his Vegas 8 was out putting to the NTSC monitor just like Premiere Pro. I had to take my card back after a week. The trimming tool just does not work as easy. While there are some simularites and both can be customized I think that Premiere's GUI is more refined. For laptop (single monitor)you edit the PIP right on the program monitor with Premiere as oppsed to having a rectangle to move that changes the images in the program monitor like in Vegas. Also the way you crop and do PIPs in Vegas is wiered to me. I know some people love Vegas but I prefer Premiere Pro. I have the CS4 Master Collection. I wanted Dreamweaver and Indesign.

The Dynamic link is nice. You can preview to ram up the wazoo instead of having to render and waste disk space. The CS4 Master Collection rocks.

You can save vegas files as Avid Legacy files and open them right up in AE as well. Makes it great for doing color corrections and such.

I'm a huge Vegas guy, but I'm trying to work with Premiere more since Vegas doesn't have enough "street cred".
