Vegas 8 Crashes on playback why?

I am editing a music video using vegas 8 pro and also after effects cs3 on my windows vista quad core system. My footage is saved on my back up hard drives.. 320 g .. I had a project that was crashing, on playback the preview video screen would play some of the footage then shortly afterwards the preview window would turn all red and then vegas would either just shut down or an error message would pop up. I moved everything to a new project it worked fine for a while but then when I started editing again the red screen came up but this time it had an error message with quicktime in it.. I have been rendering out of after effects in a quicktime format . Anyone know what could possibly be happening?

Need Help Please!

Some reasons:
1. The format you are using is not an editing format or Vegas doesn't like it.
2. You are using a plugin that causes Vegas to crash.

dissect your video, find what kind of format that is, and what plugins/transitions are you using on the place where it crashes. In other words, debug it.

Ok all of my original footage is AVI. Then I import that footage into After effects cs3 and do my effects. Render them out as QT files and pull them into Vegas 8. Do you think that would be the problem. Because it plays ok at first then all of a sudden it goes crazy and the preview goes red then crashes. Should I be rendering back out in AVI? What do you think.

Should I just render all of my files as AVI instead of Quicktime because it seems as if quicktime files are throwing vegas off after adding multiple files for some reason.. it plays fine until i start adding more and more QT files.. would could be causing this crash?

Ah, yeah. Vegas is not very good friends with Quicktime. Render in either uncompressed AVI, or any *lossless* AVI format that AE and Vegas support. If you can't find any worthwhile one, google and download the freeware Lagarith lossless codec.
