Vegas 8 capture from camera

I wanted to see what would happen if I connected my Sony V1 to my laptop and record live. So, I connected the camera and hit record in vegas, but I didn't hit record on the camera, it recorded the clip as a m2t clip while on standby directly to vegas, I am wondering if I gained anything since there is no tape involved, but I have the clip to render, I rendered it to a wmv file hd 6.4 mps 1080 24p. It sure looks like I might have gained an advantage. I sure would like some opinions

You've discovered live capture. :) It can be an advantage if you want to avoid tape, but it also means you have to take a laptop with you whenever you want to shoot.

But, am I seeing things, or is the quality of the image better, I took two snap shots and looked at them in photo impact, both the same but one was the tape capture and the other was a clip captured direct to vegas, It seems to me something is lost during the tape to computer process, isn't this the reason for capture decks or cards. Is the colorspace effected at all by bypassing the tape, It looke to me that the color was more true to the actual color, I shot my cat on the bed, lighting was not good, but the first clip w/o tape sure looked better

No, there should be no difference. That which comes over the firewire live should be exactly what's recorded to tape.

I mostly work with animation, and this feature is wonderful for capturing stills and short live sequences without recording to tape.
