Vegas 8 can't start up? :(

I get this:

Internet Explorer Script Error

Automation server can't create object

file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Me/Local%20Settings/Temp/udat/upsell.htm

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

Whatever I choose doesn't do anything. Anyone else have this problem?

The splash screen for Vegas 8 doesn't even pop up. I just get this:

vegas2.jpg

vegas.jpg

I don't know why IE would even enter into it. Do you have it running while you're trying to boot Vegas? If so, close it.

exact the same problem here , I've unistalled and installed it again a few times and still no luck. Please anyone help.

That's most likely the splash screen / Vegas updater trying to display a web page. I've sniffed around vegas8.0.exe to look for command line switches, and I found these strings:

DEVSPIKE
NETRENDER
XMLMESSAGE
NOTIFYWINDOW
SEC
TIMEFORMAT
TIMESELECT
SOLOTRACK
OPENPROJ
CMDMODULE
QUESCRIPT
SCRIPTARGS
RUNSCRIPT
SCRIPT
RENDERAS
SAVEAS
EXIT
OPEN
REGSERVER
LOGO
NOLOGO
NOWINDOW

If I were you, I'd try creating a new shortcut to Vegas:

"C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 8\vegas80.exe"

with a command parameter:

-NOTIFYWINDOW 0 (or something, not sure about the syntax)

If you get Vegas to run, make sure you disable the "Use Net Notify to stay updated" checkbox in the options.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for your answer. But how can i change this? I must edit a .txt file?

Thank you.

P.S : Sorry for my poor english, i'm french.

vegas opening problem

vegas opening problem

Hi,

I too am getting the same message and can't open Vegas 8 in vista. After some digging around it appears that the upsell.htm file is something to do with RealPlayer but it also seems that using the noise reduction plugin is where the problem probably starts.

Apart from that there appears to be no answer yet, or none that I can find. This problem is also reported on a French forum.

Any help would be great as I am part way through a lot of editing.

Vegas just refuses to open so you can't do anything with it such as changing files.

Tim

Yes, but why a RealPlayer file? If I knew what the plugin was called then maybe taking it out might fix the problem.

It seems from other posts and my own usage of the plugin that it is the culprit.

I agree that Vista is a beast and I would love to go back to XP but I just got two new computers and they had Vista on them. That aside though, so far there is no solution that I have seen and Vegas just sits on the harddrive taking space and it's too expensive to do that.

Any ideas?

I don't have Vegas8 or Vista nor have I had this problem but for what it's worth, probably nothing but maybe it'll spark some ideas, ...

Internet Explorer Script Error.

Something in the script requires Internet explorer to be open...

Automation server can't create object

something within that script can't be created...

The '/Local Settings' subfolder is a hidden folder by default.
You can make it visible by selecting 'Folder Options...' from the 'Tools' menu from the menu bar of a Windows Explorer window (not IE). In the dialog box select the 'View' Tab and in the 'Hidden files and folders' folder icon, check the 'Show hidden files and folders' radio button.
That's for XP so may be slightly different for Vista.
Now double click the upsell.htm file to open it. If you get the same error, that is most likely the problem file. More in a moment.

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

...suggests that scripting may also be the problem. Could be java, VB or some other. And if the above .htm file is causing the problem the scripting is in that file. (Or it could be in another file as I'm not sure where you are when this message appears.)

If this file is the problem, right click on the file and open with Wordpad or Notepad so you can read the text. If you are not familiar with coding then have someone else have a look at the code.
You could also provide that file here for us to look at (although web programming's not my bag).
Or if it's not too long you could post the text in the file itself or PM it for someone to look at.

It also appears that the scripting is trying to open an activeX control which may be where the problem lies. You could locate that line in the code and try commenting it out with // and running it again. It might a least be a temporary workaround.

upsell.htm is in a temp folder which suggests it is, well, temporary. It may be getting called by another file and may reside on the web. If that's the case, first try disallowing Vegas to communicate online by blocking it with your firewall settings. Hard to say at this point as I'd need more info.

Thanks for the help, This is the info from upsell.htm

</html>

I have no idea about scripting, sorry. My message is a bit different from the one posted originally.

It says

Line 9

Char 1

Error Automation server can't create object.

Code 0

URL file:///C/Users/Tim/AppData/Local/Temp/udat/upsell.htm

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

I hope that is enough information.

Tim

I'm not a web coder and can't figure out the purpose of this code.
Maybe send a PM to Larry R and ask him to look at it.

In the meantime, and this is a LONG shot, try deleting everything in the text and resave it so that the file basically does nothing.

It's obvioulsy trying to run an activeX object (what though ?) and some java script which I suspect is related to the error message.

//Ahhh. It's asking if your trial period has expired at least in one line. Anyways try above.
///yeah it's trying to create a new activeX object.

//I copied the code and ran it on XP. It ran fine for me although I had to click the top bar to allow blocked content and it produced a # 1. ???

Apart from installing Vista and Vegas8 I'm running out of ideas. Hopefully someone else will jump in.

Sorry to revive this thread, but the 'official' sony solution didn't work. Instead deleting all the sony registry keys while vegas was installed , then running vegas brought up the registration/serial box which I entered my serial into, and that WORKED. So just posting just in case someone comes across this thread. Cheers.

Edit- This was on Vista Ultimate 64 bit.
