Will Vegas 8.1 work with WinXP 64bit or must your system have Vista 64bit? Which is the better version/os combo? 8.0 w/WinXP? 8.1 w/WinXP64? 8.1 w/Vista 64?

Thanks

I use it nearly every day. However, I don't know that Vegas 8.1 on XP64bit is a supported config. I don't care. Works for me.

Cool, was going to go for a MAC and would if I had the extra $$ but since I'm not making $$ with my hobby, I'll go with a pc and Vegas....will download it first for the trial however....I am sick of Vista....have it and Premiere Pro 2.0 on the laptop I'm on now and Vista sees my DVX100B and my Panasonic GS500 but I can't capture in PPro2.0 or Win Movie Maker....my old XP desktop saw both w/no problem and I could capture in Movie Maker, PPro, PElements, and some other program that came with the computer.....an XP64bit system it is then.

i highly suggest not getting xp 64bit. it's terrible unstable and will be a waste of money. i know vista uses a bit more resources than people like, but 64bit vista by far is much more stable and is less prone to getting corrupted system files.

WTH are you talking about?

I installed XP64 on this new laptop in June. I installed Vegas 8.0c, 8.1, Virtualdub, RedCine, and my other tools the same week. I cut video on it 4-6 days a week. In 7 months it has not crashed a single time. Zero. I couldn't be any happier.

Hi there

Could you maybe say how you got Pr0 8.1 to work on your xp 64bit workstation.

I've been trying since the update came out to get it to work on my box, it seems to install fine but when I try do the first launch of the app I get an error saying that the ApplicationRegistration.exe has failed.

Any tips?

Do you have a valid registration for 8.1? I did and I had no problems. Did you call Sony support? What did they say?

Yip, I own Vegas pro 8.

I posted on the sony site, all they said was that XP 64 wasn't supported so they could not assit in anyway.

What service pack are you running?

I've experienced the exact same problem with ApplicationRegistration.exe upon launch of Vegas 8.1. I first installed a fresh copy of XP64 on an old 30GB IDE drive and Vegas 8.1 worked great - this was basically a test to see how well everything would work. Upon success and no issues at all (I modified and rendered a few Vegas projects,) I then tried a fresh install of both Windows XP64 and Vegas 8.1 on a 15K SCSI (147MB) drive, and behold the ApplicationRegistration.exe error occurs. I can't explain how the IDE install would be any different from the SCSI (all other hardware was exactly the same and in the same machine.) I also attempted contact to Sony Support (I listed my OS as simply Windows 64bit in an attempt to get a response, but I suspect that will not help.) I'd sure love to know what the big difference is between my installs and/or why this error is occuring. Anyone have any ideas??

The Event Viewer always has 2 entries after a launch of Vegas. The first is an Error of type "Application Error" Event ID 1000:

Faulting application applicationregistration.exe, version 2.0.0.399, faulting module applicationregistration.exe, version 2.0.0.399, fault address 0x000000000003d0a8.

The second is Informational, Source: DrWatson, and shows the following in the details:

The application, C:\program files\Sony\Vegas Pro 8.1\ApplicationRegistration.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 02/06/2009 @ 18:35:41.234 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 000000014003D0A8 (ApplicationRegistration!SfSpike2_GetUserCompany)

Wonder what "GetUserCompany" is?

Thanks all in advance for your time and help...

Received a reply from Sony today. It appears the issue is possibly related to Windows drivers:

This is an issue which our development team is looking into. One workaround that has been found is this:

1.Install Vista 64 (without service pack 1)
2.Stop the installation from updating the operational system and the drivers.
3.Install Vegas 8.1 - this now worked!
4.Run Windows updating service (operational system and the drivers)
5.Install other programs.
