Just wanted to fill you all in on something. I had vegas 6 and it could barley do HD on preview for preview. Well I installed 8.0 and on my dual core it runs at excellent preview and get this on my 1.8 ghz latop it gives me preview in "good" setting.

Last night, I installed Vegas 8 on my MSI Wind and it's running surprisingly well. Not bad for a netbook running a 1.6ghz Atom processor. I guess Vegas really will run on anything.

A few months ago I shot a project at a former Soviet nuclear test-site, and edited the footage in-field on a 2005-vintage laptop. Footage was from an HVX and a JVC HDV camera. It wasn't exactly convenient, but it worked fine. Incidentally the 100Mbit P2 HVX footage was A LOT easier to work with than the 25Mbit HDV footage.

Here's a shot of the "editing bay" -- a corner of the tent the crew and I were living in. Note the four 320 gig USB drives. The resulting video was uploaded via satellite to the orgs head-office in Europe.

Found the clips here, bottom centre under "Video Clips from the Field".

Not my best work, but okay considering the tight deadlines and shooting/editing conditions.

I've been running Vegas 6 for way too long. I'm going upgrade to either Final Cut or Vegas 8. Any deals out there on upgrades for 6.0 users?
