vegas 7e response slow when switching between programs

I have a new Intel quadcore with 2 gigs of ram. 1- 10,000 rpm raptor drive for programs and 3- 500 gig storage drives (One for projects, One for digital juice, sound fx and music and one drive to render to) everything seems to work fine (14 sec vasst render test) all other programs seem to work well except the response time of Vegas when switching between programs. When I have a project opened in Vegas and switch to another program it happens fast, but when I switch back to vegas it takes as long as the first time I opened up the project. does anyone know why this happens?
 
I am pretty sure it has to reconnect to all the media. If you notice if you minimize and switch programs, Vegas says "Media Unavailable" on all clips.
 
So this is normal? I do not remember vegas 5 on my older system doing this. I am noticing 15-20 sec. lag times.
