Vegas 7, Make DVD

Hey guys,

My Vegas 7 is dumb... I don't get the MAKE DVD logo on the top of the editor... If anybody can tell me how to make the settings to render the audio and video seperately to import them into Architect Studio 4.0 I'd really appreciate it...

Also, with that... Please let me know how to import it into the architect studio so that the menu comes up first... I don't want it to go right to the video... I wanna make a back think with a "Play Now" type thing so they have to select play now before watching the video... When I had the MAKE DVD button at the top, it easily did that...

Thanks in advance

There's never been a "Make DVD" button in the full version of Vegas. That has only been in the consumer versions.

To make a DVD, you go to File>Render As, then choose MPEG-2 under "Save as type." Then, under "Template," you choose the DVD Architect template which is appropriate.

Then, render the audio by going to AC-3 under "Save as type." Save it to the same folder using the same file name. Then, when you drop the video into DVD Architect, it will automatically mate up the audio.

If you're rendering only part of your project, use a loop region and render both using the "Render loop region only" option.

Hey David, what do you think of the second part of his question?

Even if I set "DVD start" accordingly, some DVD players go straight to the movie. I'm 99.99999999999999999999% positive this is just a difference in DVD players (especially older, cheaper ones), but seeing this thread piqued my curiosity and I thought you might think differently.

The thing is, when I go into Architect, I just drag the AC3 into the timeline on the right and than the "Play Now" or whatever thing is still shown. So I delete that text, burn the DVD. And it's as if I'm watching a tape instead of a DVD heh... I dunno how to make it like a menu...

The default settings in DVDA are for a menu-based DVD. So, when you drop a video in, it sets up a button on the first page, and you have to press it in order to go to the video itself.

Now . . . if it's the only button on the page, it's possible that when it seems to go to the movie right away, you (or whoever) might have accidentally hit the enter button on the remote first?

Some commercial DVDs -- I'm thinking, especially, Warner Bros. -- are designed to go right to the movie, but that would have to be set up in the logic of the DVD structure itself.

Unfortunately, not possible. I'll have a menu set up with 4 or so buttons (ie: special features). I'll then ask someone I handed a copy out to if they watched the special features and 1 out of 4 people will always say "there's special features? There's a menu?"

My brother has one of those old first gen Sony DVD players, and it does the same thing. It just skips the menu and goes straight to the first link. It doesn't do this with normal DVDs.

I thought maybe there was a tiny setting I was missing, but that's almost unimagineable with an option such as "set DVD start." It's gotta be old/cheapie DVD players.

The workaround I've been using is having a 5 second clip open the dvd that just flashes my email and web site info. It'll then go to the menu. This has been working.

Odd. I have one of those Sony players as well, and I never get that response from it (in fact, I use it as my critical test player).

Not sure what the problem is, then. It doesn't happen on every player?

Nope, only a few players that belong to people here at work.

I bet we have the same Sony players in mind... though I can't remember the model number for the life of me. The DVD tray is in the middle, and the flat-joystick-like swivel controller (also on the remote) is on the right (or left). It says "CD/DVD/VCD" underneath the tray. They're great players.

Might be a fluke with the media I use... Verbatim (Mitsu) 70% of the time with TDK 30%. It never happens on my Sony.
