Am new to Vegas 7 and coming from Sony Acid, and Soundforge - Vegas is so powerful and seems easy to edit things with video!

But as i get deeper into it im trying to get into other features..

Can Vegas 7.0c do rotoscoping? I had Pinnacle Commotion Pro (since deleted)which does rotoscoping ie: filming a background blank plate then filming the same background with someone "over" it and then within the program (vegas) you overlay the blank background over the person (frame by frame) so giving an "invisible" effect? but say leaving their head so that it looks like their head is floating without a body?

So would this be possible? it may well be called something different than rotoscoping in Vegas?

(hope that makes some sense?!)

Yes. You can do it in most of the same ways you'd do it in Commotion.

You can do it with a bezier mask (in the pan/crop tool), or even a cookie cutter (which is one of the event FX selections).

Thanks!

Can you give me a simple tutorial of how i do this?

ie: i suppose you put the clean background video under the "action" clip?

Also would the Cookie cutter or bezier mask, move with the frames?

For example in Commotion, you could draw around the 1st frame then the middle most complex frame and then the end frame and Commotion would move the mask along with the action and you could stop certain frames and "re-draw" a better mask to cover the item that you need..

Can Vegas do all this? (sorry for all the questions!)

Yes. Like I said, you do it in much the same way you do it in Commotion -- layers, keyframing, etc..

What Vegas DOESN'T have, however, is a pixel anchor (corner pin) or a motion tracker which will move the mask with a specific pixel. You have to do it manually, but it's not that bad -- you can usually pick your first frame, put the mask where you want it, set a keyframe, then put the mask where you want it on the last frame and set a keyframe, and Vegas will interpolate it well enough that you only have to make minor adjustments in between.

Go into "Help" and look up "bezier mask." You do your keyframing in the little mini-timeline at the bottom of the pan/crop tool.
