Has anyone got the lowdown on what is *new* in Vegas 6?

All I got was newsletter saying it was coming @ NAB, not even the slightest hint on how it's been ramped up! :(

No, it's real... here is a post on a Sony Vegas Video forum from today:

Also, some really good news... a couple guys from the Souther California Vegas User's Group (www.scvug.org) are going to film the "New Releases Training Sessions" at NAB and stream them for free on the internet. Check with the SCVUG.ORG website around April 19th for more information on where to see them.

I don't think anyone at Sony software has confirmed that there's a Vegas 6 coming... or did they? Maybe I saw something on the Sony forums...

... in any case, they always release a new version at NAB, so I think it's a very safe bet to assume that there will be a Vegas 6 at NAB. And I'd go on a limb and guarantee that full HDV support will be included.

As for DVCPRO-HD, that's what I need... I'm hoping they include it, and I've asked them to. Go to the Sony media software vegas site and fill out the feature request form and ask for it -- if enough of us ask for it, they can't ignore us, right?

Right?

Well, it would be silly for them to -- their two biggest competitors (FCP-HD and Avid Express HD) already support it, and I think Pinnacle does too, so they have to if they want to stay competitive. Here's to hoping they're listening!

Damn; I was just looking into Vegas 5 finally. I'm assuming 6 will be abit much for me as I am staying with the DVX100; no matter whats available. I wont be in the market for a new camera for a few years probally. Hmmmmmmmm....

NAB = Decisions

Good idea Barry--i'll definitely fill out a request form. John--you need to buy Vegas 6 + DVD Architect 3 if you're gonna switch. There'll be some nice goodies beyond expanded HDV support.

Well, the announcement has been announced.

"Coming to NAB 2005!
Vegas 6 and the newest release of the Vegas+DVD Production Suite will make their debut at NAB 2005 in Las Vegas."

If they're releasing a new whole number version, then they've got to get people excited about upgrading by including a few plums. Otherwise, too few people upgrade. So I'm confident. :happy:

Vegas has become the staple of my computer system, I was alway's into premiere and learned with Final Cut but since being turned onto Vegas from other's in this forum I haven't opened premiere unless I had to.... I hope an upgrade isn't too much $$$

Nested timeline would be nice. You can already do background rendering in Vegas 5 by starting a new instance of Vegas, then start rendering in that instance. Then you can switch back to the other one and continue editing.

That's sort of background rendering, but not nearly as useful as true background rendering. True background rendering would take advantage of any idle time to render in the background without you having to think about it... i.e., if you get a phone call or something, when you come back your project is already fully pre-rendered and playing at real-time speed... that would be awesome!
