Vegas 6: Video Quality Problems

Hi. I am currently editing a video on vegas 6. I have captured the video on my PC from my GS400 via USB. The captured footage on my PC looks fine but when I import it on Vegas, the quality in my preview is pretty bad and slightly blurry. I tried putting my preview setting on Best (full) and it is still bad. I thought it might just be the preview and that it would look fine after I rendered so I rendered the video to Mpeg 2. After rendering, the quality is still bad and blurry. My goal is to eventually put this on a DVD. My project settings are on Pal Dv. Does anyone have some suggestions on how to fix this please? I'm sure it's probably a simple thing that I may have overlooked!

Thanks

Not particularly familiar with the GS400, but I know on some cams using the USB port rather than the firewire port only gives a streaming 'web' quality image - at least it did on the old Sony digital8. Have you tried capturing through the firewire instead or checked the settings in the menu?

I 'm pretty sure this camera can do web streaming through the USB port, so maybe it is setup for that.

My PC is fairly old so it doesn't have a firewire connection. Might need to get one to improve my capture quality. At the moment, I use Windows Movie Maker to capture my video from my Camera (Panasonic GS400) and then I edit in Vegas 6.

Check the properties of the media on the timeline in Vegas (Right click, choose properties and select the 2nd tab in the dialog). It will show you the resolution and the codec used for compression. You can also look in the Project Media panel for the properties of the media.

That will tell you whether it has done what you expected. If it is DV then it will be 720 x 486 (NTSC) or 720 x 576 (PAL) with some kind of DV codec (There are many). If it is something other than that it may explain the problem...

Let us know what you find.
