Hi guys,

I'm looking for some quick advice. I'm a hobbyist who has been out of the game for a long time. I got real into the DVX about 4 years ago, did some fun projects, then got caught up in life and career and have been thoroughly passed by the technology -- amazing how fast things go! Anyway, I just had a baby and I'm looking to start fooling around with video again. I have Vegas 6 and the DVX.

If you were me, would you:
a) stick with Vegas 6 until some compelling need for new features forced an upgrade
b) shift into the Vegas consumer line and check out 9 Platinum
c) upgrade to 9 Pro

I will not be doing anything super sophisticated and honestly don't need the features, but part of me wants to try to keep pace with the technology so I don't get so far behind that I could never come back....if you know what I mean. Like imagine trying to go from Windows 3.1 to Vista -- it would be an awfully confusing and painful transition...

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Download the demos and see what you like, if 6 has served you well and can still do what you want, stay with it.

If your computer is as far behind as the rest of your gear, then stay on 6. No point upgrading to software that will make your machine too slow to enjoy.

Thanks guys. In looking into it more, I think jumping over to the consumer line might suit my needs just fine and save me a couple of hundred bucks. It looks like it is quite feature rich compared to pro. My hardware is not quite as outdated and should handle it fine.

If you go to the consumer line from Vegas 6, you'll quickly decide you wasted your money. 6 will still give you much more, especially concerning 24p.

Really? Thanks! I could not tell from looking at the website. It seemed like main differences between consumer and pro were things like multi-camera editing, networked rendering, gigapixel stills, and broader format support, none of which I could really take advantage of. But I will definitely take your word for it and stick with 6! Appreciate the advice.
