Direct from the Sony ad in the new Studio Monthly. This is not a comprehensive list, but gives an idea of some of the new features included.

Sony Vegas 6.0
  • Comprehensive HDV support
  • SD/HD SDI capture, editing, and export (w/ Blackmagic design Decklink boards)
  • Enhanced multi-processor support (sounds like background rendering)

  • Project nesting
  • AAF import/export
  • VST support
  • Broadcast WAV support
  • Superior framerate conversions
DVD Architect 3
  • Dual layer authoring/burning
  • Mastering to DLT, DDP, CMF
  • CSS and Macrovision encrytion tools
  • Photoshop (PSD) layer support
  • Multi-angle selection
The demos and more info will be posted at www.sony.com/imready (but they're not up yet)

Ah . . . finally, nesting.

The dual-layer burning was a no-brainer. It looks like DVDA is getting the lion's share of the upgrades this time around.

Not so sure "enhanced multiprocessor support" adds up to background rendering, though. But if so, if it can only be had with dual-processor systems (unless that also includes HT), it's not much use to many.

It will be interesting to see how the nested timelines work with things like track motion, 5.1 surround panning keyframes, etc.. As this is all done at the track level, and not the event level, how wildly varied can you get?

It means you can edit sequences separately, yet bring them into the same master timeline in "containers." Excellent for longform editing.

SD/HD SDI capture, editing, and export (w/ Blackmagic design Decklink boards)

I wonder if this means support for DVCPRO HD:thumbsup:

I'd think that each nested timeline will be able to have it's own track attributes. It would be nice if you could set the track level attributes separately OR let the master timeline track attributes override any nested track level settings.

John: With nested timelines, I could say, "Hudson, you're editing the shower scene" and then you'd edit the whole scene and we wouldn't even have to communicate about how many video tracks you're using or how you've composited something. You'd just send it along when you're done and it would pop right onto the master timeline.

Good news! I'm interested in seeing how this version turns out. The lack of nested sequences was my number one problem with Vegas but once that's taken care of Vegas will be one powerful NLE.

EDIT: Has Vegas6 hit the market already?

I think I'm more excited about the new version of Vegas than I am about the new HVX !!!!!

Guess it must be because the HVX is going to be a bit out of my price range.

Roll on the 18th........ :)

I am very interested in the ability to DLT master and Burn DVD9s. I think this is most excellent upgrade for DVD Arch. This will give me the ability to dump some very expensive software. Nested Timeline I guess I would use alot but it hasn't really cramped my editing style. I just would render the other project to a file and plop it in the timeline. Done.

I think I saw somewhere the upgrade was $49.95???????Not sure, it's late
Also if you buy v5 within 30 days before 6 it's free! (fact)
