Vegas 5 & DivX - non-compability?!?!?

Hi again,
How to let Vegas 5 recognize AVI DivX files? I use Dr.DivX 1.06 and it is more than ok. But when I try to put a file in AVI DivX format into the Vegas 5 timeline, only audio track is recognized by Vegas 5. I just want to use DivX codec v5.21. Have I to put some file of DivX /like .dll/ into Vegas 5 directory, and HOW? Any suggestions???
I think this topic is important for many users.

Re: Vegas 5 & DivX - non-compability?!?!?

DivX changed their codec nearly three years ago, and since Vegas 4, it's not been readable, as they require a license. I can't imagine Sony paying DivX for use of the codec/decoding the codec. DivX has a long standing reputation for being used for pirating movies. Granted, DivX is used for much more than that, but none of the Hollywood studios will even look twice at DivX right now for their reputation. Sony is one of the biggest players in Hollywood, owning as much content as anyone on the planet. Can you see them in a court of law explaining how their software was used to pirate their movies, and they're suing someone for using the software and codec?

Oh, I don't think it would bar a piracy claim, any more than your lending someone your car would bar your claim if he intentionally drove it into your living room. But I'm sure you're right -- they're not likely to adopt it any time soon.

No, i wasn't suggesting it would bar a piracy claim, just make it less obvious.
Moreover, I failed to mention that what DivX used to give away in the encoder side, they now charge a licensing fee. Sony would have to pay DivX a fee to encode.

Certainly – and you DID mention it. :)

Now, of course, just to say wouldn’t bar a claim doesn’t mean it’s not a bad decision to do it . . . I mean, you could walk through a rough neighborhood and still have a claim against anyone who mugs you, but it’s better just not to walk through it.

ANYWAY, this thread is now far more esoteric than it deserves to be . . . ::)
