Can someone tell me about updating Vegas? I'm confused when I go to the update site, and there is a download for "Vegas Update 4.0e"... When I go to that update page, there's no notes on what it fixes, and the file it wants to send me is named "Vegas40.exe". I already have this file. It's my program file. Is the update a whole new version of Vegas?

I guess I expected an update file to be called something like "VegasUpdate40e.exe".

Anyone update Vegas 4.0 yet?

Vegas 4e is basically just a name change from Sonic Foundry to Sony within the program. It's exactly the same as 4d except that it says Sony wherever it used to say Sonic Foundry. The updates are actually entire install packages meaning that you don't even need Vegas to be installed on your system to "update" to the latest version, you just run the file you downloaded.

You can't. The *best* you'll get if you download it the "update" only is a demo version, and you might not even get that.

You still need your license code, and you can only get that by paying for it.

Adobe, Microsoft, etc. use much the same system for upgrades as Vegas does for updates. The upgrade file/CD comes with the full installation program of the new version, but in order to install it, you've got to show some proof of ownership of a previous version. This proof is usually requested in the form of a serial number, and installation CD (of a previous version), or a previous version of the software currently installed on your system.

Thanks! So, after downloading the update file (vegas40.exe), I just replace my existing vegas40.exe with the new one?
