Varizoom "Support"

REALLY not happy with Varizoom on this one. Seems like I've had bad luck all around on my HVX purchase -- I spent over 10k on everything, and am still having issues over a month later.

Bought Varizoom's ROCK-PZFI lens controller with the camera, and had major issues with the unit. Auto/Manual focus was completely screwed, and it switched randomly. Contacted support (Kris Maxwell) and immediately had to send in a NEW purchase for repair -- something I hate doing with something that should work out of the box. They got it on April 10th, and I STILL don't have it back, and not even an email on the status. My emails to them have gone unanswered now since they have been at NAB. This really ticks me off, and makes me wonder about my decision to purchase their product.

The stats - bought the PZFI over a month ago, and STILL haven't been able to use it. Amazingly bad service in my mind.

Anyone else have problems with them like this?

I have heard of others with this same problem.
They were trying to figure out if it was the Varizoom, or the HVX jack.
No clear result/resolution.

Fortunately for me, mine is working properly.
I still think they should have made the plug extended further, or a straight flexable cord, or even a 45 degree angle on the cord instead of the 90 degree that causes the cord to bind.
 
I briefly used the varizoom for a film I'm doing and I was surprised at the difficulty of just inserting the plugs. Zoom was standard and the focus was too critical. As far as service, I was invited by the owner to stop by and test some products and when I had time to do that I called and got some gatekeeper who told me it was not possible to come by. So don't know what's up. I am hoping to test out bebob very soon.
 
I purchased mine at NAB. The plugs....yeh, need some improvements. With the limited time I've played with it, I liked it a-lot! A whole lot! My lighting director who has used the high end fiz units in Hollywood liked it also.
I'll have to try and break it later.

Hope you have better luck soon. Bad customer service is a real turn-off for me!
I liked the people I met from Varizoom. They couldn't have been nicer. They said they are making larger knobs available.
 
As far as focus controls go, the Bebob Foxi is by far the best focus control out for the HVX.

Tom, I never received that prototype VZ focus unit. :(
 
One thing that would have been nice (besides better customer service) would be a plug that is connected together at the end so that it is custom fit and you don't have to examine the size of each plug to see which one goes where... and then try to move them into a position where they can both actually plug all the way in. I like this over the Bebob because of the iris and zoom control... now if I could just get it back and have it work.
