Varizoom DV Sportser help - any engineers here?

OK, the vest sucks. And so does Varizoom's support. Let's just get that out of the way.

They advertise that the spring-loaded arm is rated for cameras 1 to 7 lbs - WRONG! Try 10 to 12. So I contacted Varizoom, told them the arm is too rigid for my rig weight (7lbs) asked if they could suggest a work around.

The short answer - NO.

However; they were kind enough to suggest that I send my brand new vest to them (at my expense) so they could have a look. No thanks. They finally offered to send me a new spring JUST like the one that came with it. But they never sent it. (I could rant on)

Anyway ....

The problem is I spent $750 bucks for this thing and it's too late to send it back. I need to make it work. And by the way, I'm shooting with a Canon T2I and Glidecam HD 1000. They work GREAT alone. But it gets heavy surprisingly fast)

So ....

After tons of testing I found the vest's arm will finally lower to it's proper working position (horizontal or above) if I add about 5 lbs to my glidecam. Which stinks because the vest has ZERO shoulder pads. And who wants extra weight on all day shoots? Not to mention that the vest STILL doesn't work as well as hand-holding the rig.

So what to do?
- Keep adding weight to my rig and buy some really good shoulder pads?
- Void my warranty (big woop) tear into the arm and replace the spring with one more suitable for a light weight rig?
- Go back in time and not buy a Varizoom product?

Help?

(((I have to add this - Varizoom's excuse for not helping me or making suggestions as to how I might make the vest work is that their "Big Guys" don't let them give out sensitive technical information. Like anyone would want to build this vest :Drogar-SunGlass(DBG)))
