I was taught to double the frame rate to find the "correct" shutter speed (i.e. 1/48 for 24p). Since I always shoot in 24p, my rule of thumb is basically never touch the shutter speed.
However I know people mention how shooting at a high frame rate will give you the "Saving Private Ryan" look. Ok, fine, that might be good for action films.
But now that I've been thinking of it, I notice high shutter speeds used in music videos a lot (many Hip Hop videos), just to give it a "look". I recently was watching a documentary, where a lot of the interviews had different "looks" to each one, and I could swear that one example was using a high shutter speed, just to give it an edgy unique look.
I'm wondering if other people play around with the shutter speed to get different looks for different projects, and some examples of where you used them. Music videos? Docs? Sit down interviews? Slow shutter?
